Community Involvement

Frosh Integration

The Frosh Directorship is responsible for organizing the first-year Engineering orientation days, known as EngO. EngO takes place the first two days of the school year, and introduces first year direct-entry Engineering students to the University and the Faculty of Engineering. Throughout the days' activities, first-year students learn about Engineering and its traditions while building friendships with fellow students that can last to the completion of their degrees and beyond.

The Graduation Directorship is responsible for planning the Engineering Year End Formal and Iron Ring ceremony. They also organize the Iron Ring fittings and information sessions. Graduation's main event, the Year End Formal, is the last social event of the year for all Engineering students, and a chance to say farewell to the graduates. If you have questions or concerns about the Iron Ring fittings or ceremonies, or how to get Year End Formal tickets, please contact the Vice Stick Internal.

Merchandise

The Merchandise Directorship is responsible for the creation, marketing, and sale of UMES merchandise. This includes shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs, touques, and patches. The Merchandise Directorship is also in charge of the rental of student lockers within the engineering buildings. This year The Window, a sales "desk" located in the atrium (near the UMES offices and lounge), will continue to be the main location for merchandise and event ticket sales, as well as locker rentals and other convenience items.

Senior Outreach

The UMES Outreach Directorship aims to promote the Faculty of Engineering to those considering a post secondary education. The Outreach Directorship supports the recruitment of new students to the faculty and raises the profile of Engineering within the community. Outreach organizes information days called Outreach Days, where high school students come to the U of M to be exposed to the life of an engineering student and an introduction to the engineering profession. Outreach also goes directly to high schools to give short presentations to students about our faculty and about engineering in general.

Corporate Relations

The Corporate Relations Directorship is responsible for communicating with professional engineers, engineering firms, and the business community on behalf of Engineering students. While dealing with new and established contacts, CR works to find sponsorship for UMES events and to improve the employment potential for Engineering students. In pursuit of these goals, the CR directors organize the ASE Career Fair, APEGM Student-Professional Dinner and the Leaders of Innovation Wine & Cheese Event.

The role of the Promotions Directorship is to keep all Engineering students informed of upcoming events, new services and important student issues. They are responsible for producing and hanging UMES posters around campus, as well as class announcements and other promotional activities. The Promotions directors will also be continually updating the large bulletin board located outside of the UMES offices and lounge (E2-292/294) with useful information. The bulletin board is a great way to find out what's happening around the Faculty. Check it out whenever you have a chance.

The Spirit Directorship organizes non-sporting, non-alcoholic events to promote student involvement. They focus on activities to encourage the spirit and morale of Engineering students. The main goal of Spirit is to maintain, revive and develop traditions within the Engineering student body. The Spirit Directorship is also in charge of organizing UMES's Engineering Week activities. EngWeek exists to celebrate Engineering and its traditions and to raise the profile of Engineering in the University community, while having some fun in the process. Numerous activities, including team-based competitions, will be taking place around the Faculty as part of EngWeek. All Engineering students are welcome to attend.

The Sports Directorship organizes Engineering sporting events throughout the school year. This year, our events will include our infamous spongee tournament, our first-ever frisbee tournament, and out annual curling tournament. All of these sporting events have been very successful in the past and spots fill up fast, so be sure to sign up your team early to guarantee a spot. Sports is excited to continue entering out intramural team, so if you want a spot, make sure to sign up!
