The UMES professional development and networking events are designed to get engineering students in contact with industry professionals and companies in Manitoba for potential employment. The Leadership Conference is a one day event held at the University of Manitoba EITC complex on September 21, 2019 from 10am-3:30pm. The purpose of this conference is for undergraduate engineering students to development and build upon their leadership, professional, technical and communication skills through panels and workshops lead by a variety of people.
The ASE Career Fair provides students with a great opportunity to learn about current career and employment opportunities in their field of study. Various representatives from many of the top engineering companies in Manitoba will be in attendance. In addition to answering questions you may have regarding the company and career opportunities, they will be accepting your resumes. This is taking place on October 5th, 2021 as an online event. There will be a virtual platform training session on September 29th, 2021 form 1:00 to 2:00 pm, accessable through Career Connect. The University of Manitoba Engineering Wine and Cheese event provides a great opportunity for students to meet with business professionals on a one to one basis. Students are able to make contacts within their industry, network with many influential professionals, and have a great time. Wine, cheese, hor d'oeuvres, and refreshments are served throughout the event.
The evening consists of speeches, presentations, awards, and an opportunity for students to walk around and converse with representatives from industry leaders. The dress code for the evening is business professional and it is recommended for students to bring business cards to hand out to any professionals they may encounter.
The Etiquette Evening is a new event being presented by UMES to help students develop dining and etiquette skills to use during networking events. Hosted by a dinner etiquette professional, the evening guides students and attendees through a four-course meal with important knowledge of how to present themselves in a professional dining atmosphere.
The Beer Tasting Evening is a new event brought by UMES, hosted at Barley Brothers. This pub features the most taps in Canada for our beer enthusiasts and it serves as an excellent location for a unique and informal networking experience. Students and professionals will have the opportunity to connect on a more personal level over a wide assortment of craft beer.
