Annual Events
Recurring events that define the engineering student experience at the University of Manitoba
EngO
Every September before classes, the University of Manitoba Engineering Society (UMES) hosts its Engineering Orientation (EngO) for the sole purpose of helping direct-entry freshmen make a smooth transition from high school to the Price Faculty of Engineering.
EngO is planned out and run by your fellow engineering students, so we all know what you are and will be going through in your first year. Almost everyone you will interact with during the two days of EngO plays a role in the faculty (students, professors, advisers, etc.). We will be able to answer your questions and, more importantly, you will be able to make important connections that will serve you throughout your time in the faculty and beyond.
BNAD Marches
BNAD Marches, which have been continued through generations, serve as events to uphold the spirit and tradition of engineering through song and music. The Spirit Directorship holds BNAD practice at the beginning of the year, and organizes BNAD Marches throughout the year where students can grace the world with their musical talents, chant Godiva's Hymn, and march to a University of Manitoba Bisons' home game to cheer them on.
December 6 Memorial
Every year on December 6th, The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, The Secretary with the support of UMES and the Faculty organize a memorial service to remember and honour the lives that were violently taken in the anti-feminist mass shooting at École Polytechnique in 1989. All are welcome to attend.
EngWeek
EngWeek, held in the first week of January, exists to celebrate engineering and its traditions and to raise the profile of engineering in the University community, while having some fun in the process. Events will be held each day of the week providing engineering students with ample opportunity to get in on the fun. To cap off EngWeek, UMES hosts a social at which the winning team of EngWeek is announced.
In past years, students have enjoyed a free pancake breakfast, a social event at a nearby small town, an Eng vs. Aggie hockey game, and have been able to compete in various events against each other. As a part of EngWeek, students will have a chance to show off various costumes during the dress-up days.
And More!
Many of UMES' directorships put in a great amount of work to plan social, sporting, and professional development events throughout the year! These events include but are not limited to, the Graffiti Social, Halloween Dodgeball, Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, the Golf Dome, The Big One, Monday Night Hired, Networking Workshop, Beverage and Pizza Tasting, and many more!
Many of these events change every year so keep an eye out on our calendar and upcoming events for updates!
