Engineering Endowment Fund

The Engineering Endowment Fund (EEF) is a great financial resource available to engineering students at the U of M. The EEF has been in operation since 1989 and is comprised of funds donated by Engineering students, staff and alumni. The student contribution each year is $175; $100 is towards the Endowment Fund, and the other $75 is added to the Building Fund. The EEF has now surpassed $2.5 million and distributes on average $150,000, from the interest generated annually.

To reaffirm student support for the fund, a referendum is held every three years. This is to obtain every student’s opinion of the EEF at least once throughout his or her degree. Under the advice of Engineering Endowment Fund Advisory Committee (EEFAC) made up of students, staff and alumni, the Dean grants money to projects and activities that require additional funding to be successful, or that would not otherwise receive funding from the Faculty. The projects and activities funded include:

  • Student activities – SAE, EWB, GNCTR, and undergraduate conferences

  • Student facilities – Office equipment for Engineering Student Groups and UMES

  • Classroom and lab upgrades

  • Undergraduate Scholarships

  • High school outreach programs

Furthermore, applicants who have received money three years in a row will continue to receive funding each year after, provided they supply the committee with a report from the previous year and a basic application.

In November 2004, UMES facilitated an EEF referendum in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and the University’s Department of Private Funding. This last referendum confirmed strong student support of the EEF by students voting to maintain their levels of contribution. Students also voted in favour of more student representation on the committee and for the fund to increase student awareness of its activities. As direct result of the vote, the EEFAC will now consist of four undergraduate students, four engineering professors, one graduate student who must have completed their undergraduate degree at the U of M, one support staff member, two alumni, an administrative assistant, and a chair who must also be alumni.

The EEF website is currently being developed to ensure that information is made more accessible.

Any student or faculty member has the opportunity to apply to the EEF for financial assistance for any project that will benefit undergraduate students. Should anyone have questions about the application process, please contact the Senior Stick.

Dean's Office

Dean of Engineering Student Advisor

The Dean's office offers students several unique services. These include:

  • registration assistance (getting into a 'full' class, getting into a class for which you do not meet the pre-requisites or if you have been blocked from registering)
  • scholarship applications
  • answering any questions regarding the Faculty of Engineering

If you encounter any problems with registration or during your studies, please contact the Student Advisor Judy.
