Entrance Requirements

There are two methods of gaining entrance into Engineering at the University of Manitoba. The first is via Direct Entry from High School. Those students who meet the criteria may start their first year of university already enrolled in Engineering if they so choose. The second method is by first taking University 1 and then entering engineering in one’s second year. This is for students who do not quite direct entry requirements or are unsure of whether they wish to pursue a degree in engineering in their first year.

Direct Admission into the Faculty of Engineering from High School

Applicants who have completed Chemistry 40S, Mathematics 40S (pre-calculus), and Physics 40S with a minimum overall average of 85%, and no grade lower than 60% in any one course, may be admitted to Engineering directly from high school.

From University 1

Students wishing to gain admission to Engineering from University 1 must have completed at least eight of the following courses (or their equivalent), each with a minimum grade of "C", and a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.0:

  • Applied Calculus I (MATH 1510) or equivalent
  • Applied Calculus II (MATH 1710) or equivalent
  • University 1 Chemistry (CHEM 1300)
  • Introduction to Computer Science 1 (COMP 1010)
  • Critial Thinking (PHIL 1290)
  • Design in Engineering (ENG 1430)
  • Introduction to Electrical and Computer Engineering Techniques (ENG 1450)
  • Introduction to Statics (ENG 1440)
  • Introduction to Thermal Sciences (ENG 1460)
  • Classical Linear Algebra (MATH 1210)
  • Literary Topics (ENG 1460)
  • Physics I (PHYS 1050)
