Engineering at the University of Manitoba was established in 1907. Since then, it has gained praise from other universities and national boards. The engineering design courses offered are second to none in Canada. The National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) have recognized the University of Manitoba for its goal of producing design ready engineering graduates. Professor Ron Britton is the Associate Dean of Engineering and was recognized by NSERC for his accomplishments in engineering design and was awarded the faculty wide Research Chair in Engineering Design.
The University of Manitoba also offers numerous state of the art labs and equipment for their Engineering students. The Drafting Lab is filled with new computers to be used for AutoCAD and drafting. The Engineering and Information Technology Complex will have a brand new computer lab, as well as new classrooms, and will be a great place for students to hang out. There will be a new lounge, a spacious atrium, and places to study complete with wireless internet access and electrical outlets for laptop computers, all catering to the needs of the engineering student.
