At some point in your academic career, you may choose to appeal either a term work grade or final grade. If you find yourself in that position, follow these steps:
- Talk to your instructor. A lot of the time, you will find that the mark discrepancy was simply a mistake and can be easily corrected.
- If the issue was not resolved in step #1, talk to the department head. He/she may be able to offer some useful advice that could save you some time.
- Get an appeal form from the Engineering Student Affairs Office in E1-284 EITC or online.
- Fill out the form.
- Go to the Cashiers' Office in Room 138 University Centre to pay the $35 fee and get a receipt.
- Submit the form, the work in question (where appropiate) and the receipt to the Registrar's Office in 400 University Centre.
Term work must be appealed within ten working days of the grade being made available. Final grade appeals must be during the appeal deadlines:
- Term 1 courses: January 25, 2010
- Term 2 and full year courses: June 14, 2010
Some important facts about appeals:
- Your mark cannot go down as a result of an appeal.
- If your mark is raised as a result of the appeal, the $35 fee is refunded (be sure to keep your receipt).
- The examination or term work in question will be re-read by a professor other than the one who taught your section of the course.
- Once the appeal period is over, you have the right to view your final exam under the supervision of the instructor.
